The most interesting part of doing illustration work is the research. Here you see an armadillo leaving his burrow or den to forage and a rattlesnake moving in. Rattlesnakes are dependent on caves, man's excavations or animals to make a den for them to breed and survive the colder weather in. Well, here is the Wonder Woman cover for Andy Mangel's  2009's WW IV benefit.. Yes, I had fun. Who wouldn't with nasty  bugs, sharp blades, and a pretty but strong woman to paint? A comparision of a Boto, river dolphin and an ocean dolphin done for a children's science article. Dolphins do not breathe water but are mammals and breathe oxygen. The boto is a descendant of ocean going dolphins and became trapped over time upriver;  adapting it's diet and even it's physical body so it could hunt more easily (beak like mouth).
